DIATRON MANUFACTURES HEMATOLOGY ANALYZERS’ NOT ONLY FOR HUMAN IVD MARKET, BUT ALSO FOR THE VETERINARY SECTOR.
Human and mammalian blood consists of similar components, especially in the blood cells, which are found in plasma: e.g. Erythrocytes, Leukocytes and Thrombocytes. The Hemoglobin concentration of the Erythrocytes, is a vital parameter to know, as anemia – hemoglobin deficiency – is the most common hematological condition. However, blood analysis in the veterinary field comes with some challenges and has some important guiding principles:
Firstly: Normal values must be determined for each animal type. i.e. one species, with one unique set of reference ranges. The Diatron Abacus Vet5 analyzer offers testing of 13 different animal species.
Secondly: there are significant morphological difference between human and animal cells, e.g. bird red blood cells are nucleated, thus making it very difficult to perform accurate leukocyte counts.
Thirdly: The existence of broad biological variations. The hematocrit and hemoglobin parameters in veterinary medicine are relatively close to human reference ranges but they have high Mean Cell Value (MCV) disparities: Cats, cattle and horses are 50% of human values while sheep and goats are almost 25% of the normal value range of humans, leading to inversely proportional variation of RBC (Erythrocytes) counts. Normal total count of Leukocytes (WBC) also varies from species to species.
Thanks to its technical expertise, Diatron has developed fluidic and measurement capabilities for such requirements. Sample and reagent dilutions, incubation times and measurements are adjusted and tailored to obtain the most precise and accurate results for each individual species.
Some applications can also require some additional specific reagents, such as when counting platelets in cat blood, owing to the frequent occurrence of cell aggregation. To minimize this phenomenon, Diatron has implemented the introduction of a special reagent, which makes blood cell counts accurate and reliable in cats.
With the Diatron Abacus Vet5 analyzer, you will experience animal healthcare at its best. It offers 5-part differential results, features a large touch screen, and has an intuitive user interface to provide an optimal solution for veterinary clinics and practices requiring a high-quality hematology analyzer.
